How to produce osmosis water

How to produce osmosis water:instructions for making osmosis water at home. Necessary equipment and why to use osmosis water for the aquarium (fresh and reef) or to irrigate the plants.

L'osmosis waterfinds many domestic applications, for car maintenance, for the care of acidophilic plants and especially for the care ofaquarium. To fill the aquarium, make partial water changes, to top up the evaporated water (both in the marine aquarium and in the fresh water one) or to produce salt water, theosmotic water. Osmosis water can be bought or made at home using a reverse osmosis system.

How to produce osmosis water

Forproduce osmosis waterit needs an implant. The cost of a system to make osmosis water can vary and range from 50 euros up to over 600 euros. The cost does not depend only on the production capacity but also on efficiency. Theosmosis systemscan have a different yield, the most common ones can produce water with a 4: 1 yield, so for every 4 parts of water it returns one ofosmosis water.

Although it seems wasteful, it is economically convenient: by treating 100 liters of tap water, 25 liters of osmosis water are obtained and the remaining 75 liters must be used for car washing, garden irrigation or house cleaning. Why is it economically convenient? Because osmosis water is charged more expensive than water from domestic water pipes. A 20-liter tank of osmosis water costs about 5 euros while 1 cubic meter (1000 liters) of tap water costs no more than 2 euros. In proportion, with 2 euros spent on the water bill you can get 250 liters ofosmosis waterand 750 liters of water to be used for other uses.

A very popular system for the production of osmosis water for aquarium maintenance is the Askoll reverse osmosis system, which produces 30 liters of osmosis water in 6 - 8 hours, based on the starting water and to water pressure, those with low water pressure problems at home may have to wait up to 4 hours to get 10 liters! Conversely, those with good water pressure can obtain 40 liters in 4 hours.

On “this Amazon page” it is possible to untangle and choose from a good number of reverse osmosis systems, the most complete are also equipped with pump, tap and storage tank. There is no shortage of reverse osmosis systems equipped with mineralizers, therefore capable of returning osmosis water and then enriching it with salts, the perfect solution for those who also want to produce mineral water!

Reverse osmosis system

A plant formake osmosis waterit consists of 2 filters and an osmotic membrane. Just attach the system to the tap at home to getpure osmosis water.

The system has two outlets, the first is waste water (even if defined as waste water, it is still an excellent water, to be used for any domestic use), the second outlet returnspure osmosis water. The so-called "waste water", rich in salts extracted from the water, comes out of the waste water supply pipe, with this water it is possible to irrigate the garden (green light to irrigate the lawn, fruit trees but not plants succulents, azaleas, orchids, hydrangeas and other acidophilic plants), wash the car or use it as water for household hygiene.

The two filters are contained in two different containers and operate mechanical filtration and chemical filtration but the bulk is done by the osmotic membrane. The osmotic membrane is composed of a dense series of very thin pores, with a porosity that varies from 1 to 25 µm (1 µm = 0.001mm: one thousandth of a millimeter). The osmotic membrane must be replaced periodically (from 3 months to a year, depending on the manufacturer and the capacity of the system). The cost of the cartridge containing the osmotic membrane varies from model to model, often the refill costs around 10 - 20 euros.

Can the water from the conditioner be used for the aquarium? Unfortunately, the water in the conditioner may contain iron oxides or traces of copper, so the system and the quality of the water obtained must be carefully checked before being able to evaluate its use in the aquarium.
