How to cure raspberry, plant diseases

The period in which to lend moreraspberry careis spring: to lower the risk ofillnessesand parasitic infestations I advise you to air the row in order to prevent fruit rot.

For ventilation, I recommend that you mow the grass every 15 days. The weed favors the development of botrytis (raspberry rot agent). Inside the row ofraspberriesweeds must be eradicated manually.

When and how to harvest raspberries

Also remember that the harvest of raspberries it must be performed in a scalar way, repeated, therefore, every 2-3 days. Yes, if you harvest every 4 - 5 days you might come across overripe fruit that flakes easily.

To prolong the storage some raspberry, I recommend that you collect it with the entire glass, that is, including the receptacle; of course, this type of harvest is more demanding but it allows to maintain the organoleptic characteristics longer and also prolongs its storage.

Raspberry plants, care

Forcurethe bestplants of raspberryit may be necessary to prepare transparent and thin plastic cover sheets, especially if you live in highly rainy areas and where hail can damage the blooms.

In addition, with summers with uncertain climatic trends, with heavy rains, major damage to the crop could occur: rains and humidity can cause fruit rot. A good tunnel can prevent this problem, obviously it will have to be set up before harvest, so at the end of May. Also, the tunnel will need to be aired daily.

How to prune raspberry plants

Therepruningit is performed between February and March. In this period, thered raspberry(Rubus idaeus) needs to be renewed to give you more abundant harvests in the following years. Therepruningdiffers according to the cultivated variety.

How to prune the uniferous raspberrythis variety blooms and produces only once a year. Pruning is done by cutting close to the stump of the old shoots that have fructified. The old shoots go away, cut at the base, while you will have to leave, for each tuft, 4 - 5 shoots, the younger ones (of a year). Choose to keep the most vigorous ones.

If the cultivation is in open field, in rows, tie the selected shoots open like a fan, to the iron wire placed along the row at a height of one meter.

How to prune the biferous raspberrythis variety is characterized by two blooms and two fruit productions per year. In this case, pruning is carried out by cutting off the terminal part of the shoots that fructified the previous year.

How to fertilize raspberries

If your plants are producing little fruit, it is worth giving potassium sulfate to support flowering and production while protecting the plant from the cold. Thefertilizationsof theraspberrythere are two, one in spring and one in autumn. When the raspberry is grown in pots, the fertilizations will be carried out with liquid fertilizer to be administered once a month from March to October / November.

In spring, apply mature organic fertilizer to the foot of the plant while in autumn, prefer a potassium-based fertilizer.

Potassium sulphate is very useful for strengthening the tissues and increasing the resistance of plants to late frosts, excellent for preventing any damage to the flowers and above all for increasing fruit production.

Where to buy potassium sulfate? In garden centers, at agricultural consortia or by taking advantage of online sales. On Amazon, a 1.25 kg pack of potassium sulfate is offered at a price of 19.28 euros with free shipping. It is useful for all plants that fear the cold.

Diseases of raspberry, how to cure them

If you don't want to give up an excellent raspberry jam, you would do well to pay attention to cases of rapid and complete drying of the strain! They are not uncommon in spring.

When the plants ofraspberrythey get annoyed and you can't find other causes, probably one is in progress fungal disease very common given by pathogenic fungi such as Armillaria mellea and Phythophtora. Some raspberry varieties such as Rossana, Heritage and Tulameen show a high sensitivity to these fungal diseases.

In this context, the treatment to be performed serves to prevent and contain the spread ofillnessesfungal already occurring on raspberry plants. The most effective products are those based on water-suspended solutions of Trichoderma harzianum Redo strain KRL-AG2 or strain T-22 to be used diluted in water or through localized irrigation with dripline.

For the dosages, I refer you to the instructions found on the product packaging but usually a dose of 10 grams is recommended for each plant in case of infection already in progress, or only 1 gram per 15 meters of row if the treatment is only used for prevent disease.
